AIS receivers get the AIS VHF radio signals sent by commercial vessels (Class A) and pleasure boaters (Class B) via VHF antenna. These signals are converted into an NMEA protocol, which can be interpreted from a chart plotter or PC software. The interpreted data can be displayed on the screen used.

24.09.2013 - A true story - worth to be told
German sailors have been rescued by the help of the easyRESCUE
this true story we've heard from one of our customers. They were sailing in the North Sea with direction HELGOLAND. Aboard: 3 persons, VHF handheld radio and AIS S.A.R.T. easyRESCUE devices. "We had rough sea and suddenly there was a big hit, shaking the whole ship", the captain told later.
The result was a massive water inlet so they had to leaf the sinking ship. The next steps were very clear: MAYDAY MAYDAY emergency call, get the life raft ready and take the VHF radio and the easyRESCUE with you. Within minutes the sail yacht was down.
when entering the life raft, the easyRESCUE was activated manually which triggers a persistant AIS S.A.R.T. emergency signal which will be received by every AIS receiver within transmission range. The transmitted signal contains current GPS position, as well as corse and speed over ground of the life raft in distress.
The German Customs vessel HELGOLAND on his way from Cuxhaven received the AIS emergency signal in a distance of about 8 nautical miles and started the rescue mission. Via VHF radio they informed the victims about their upcoming arrival. "Not longer than 15 minutes we had to stay inside the life raft" said one of the blessed sailor.
Luck in the accident everyone is in good shape and the boat is the only thing got broken.
The German Customs officers were very surprized by the excellence performance of the easyRESCUE. With bad conditions and high waves the lif raft came insight less than 300 Meters. "We had no chance to see anything and the persistant transmiiting of GPS position and SOG and COG has been our eys for miles" one of the German Customs member said. "It's nice to see pleasure boats being equipetd with such a high quality stuff. These units have to become obligatory for every yacht"!
The saved people are happy having the easyRESCUE with them and do absolutely emphasize the comment of the German Customers. With this true story the saved want to show how how necessary and essential life saving safety equipment could be which has a high technical standard possible you can rely on anytime.
20.09.2013 - AIS technology at the service of sustainable fisheries
WWF has presented in September 2012 a new idea for the promotion of a sustainable fisheries. In the words of the organization it is “a new, simple and inexpensive way to use satellite data with the aim to monitor global fisheries activities and curb illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing practices, one of the biggest impediments to achieving sustainable fisheries”. After evaluating AIS Data from the last year and a half, WWF has concluded that it is possible to retrace through the use of AIS System the movement of vessels which are suspected of illegal fishing.
WWF is worried about the inefficiency of current control methods, despite the Common Fisheries Policy (CPF) which specify quotas for preserving the oceans ecosystem and fish stocks.
According to WWF AIS technology is a "great tool" that would allow governments and Regional Fishing Management Organisations (RFMOs) to ensure efficient monitoring of compliance with existing regulations in this area. The evaluation of AIS system leads WWF to the conclusion that: “Governments all over the world should make this system mandatory for every commercial fishing vessel. At the moment, the IMO only requires mandatory installation of AIS System for ships over 300 metric tonnes, but not for fishing vessels”.

09.09.2013 - Heroes need tools for heroes
The Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution (KNRM) is an organization which “is providing help and assistance free of charge on open water to those who are in danger or are at risk of being in danger.” We would like to describe them as heroes who work to save the life of people in danger.
Therefore, we present the results of the KNRM rescue missions in 2012. The source of this information is the German magazine “Segeln”. The numbers speak for themselves.
2102 rescue missions realized the KNMR. They are the equivalent of the German institution DGzRS.
- The KNRM volunteers rescued 3.662 persons in 2012
- 200 missions more than in 2011. There are also three new KNRM lifeboat stations.
- 500 of the missions were caused by motor problems, followed by navigation errors and Rudder Problems.
- 51 boats capsized
- 46 ships sunk in 2012.
- 3 Beaufort was the prevailing wind force in which most of the missions took place during the summer.
- 37 missions took place on Whit Monday. That was the date with most missions in one day.
But what did they do for their own safety during rescue missions?
Everyone in their team carries an AIS S.A.R.T. “easyRESCUE” with him. If something goes wrong, the easyRESCUE let know the other team members, where is the rescuer, and they can assist him immediately. We are very proud of being providers of one of the tools which help the KNRM to be safe when saving lives.
